Volunteers needed to make 2nd ‘I Love Market Harborough’ Festival a success

2014 saw the launch of the ‘I Love Market Harborough’ Festival which attracted over 600 visitors to The Square. This year, its organisers Sustainable Harborough are calling for volunteers with an interest in the town to make this year’s event an even bigger success.

The event is to take place between 9am and 4pm on Saturday 27th June on the Market Square. Volunteers are being asked to give up half a day of their time to help out with the running of stalls and activities on the day.

The festival aims to raise awareness of the environment and sustainability within the town. At the event, residents will be able to join in with activities and learn about a range of environmentally friendly practices. The message from last year was that even small changes can make a big difference. Those interested in learning more about how to volunteer can email sustainableharborough@ruralcc.org.uk or call 01858 466 207.

Last year’s event showcased several of the projects that Sustainable Harborough support in the local area. It also featured several art and craft activities as well as cooking demonstrations from other Community Organisations. The plans for this year’s event are even more ambitious, with around 20 stalls scheduled to be erected on the square.

“We’re hoping for another great turnout at this year’s festival and are looking for volunteers who are happy to help spread the message that there are many simple changes that people can make to their day-to-day life which can have a significant impact upon the environment around them” comments Jo Sharman, Community Project Officer at Sustainable Harborough.

Sustainable Harborough is a five year project funded through the Big Lottery Fund’s Communities Living Sustainably programme, working with householders, businesses and local producers to raise awareness of sustainability in the community. The organisation offers practical support to individuals and groups who want to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance the environment in which they live and work.
