The Harborough Collective – David Le Page

The Harborough Collective - David Le PageThe Harborough Collective was founded as recently as 2010 by David Le Page, a resident of Market Harborough, a highly sought after violinist and former pupil of the Yehudi Menuhin School. Drawing on the talents of some of the countries best musical talent, the ensemble provides an extremely high standard of music making. Understand that these are not amateur musicians. These players are professionals. Each and every one of them can boast a first class and impressive CV and their skill is evident the moment they start to play. For this reviewer, what makes these concerts so appealing is the diversity of the programming.

All together, the ‘something old – something new’ idea of the programming is worth the price of the ticket. Of course, add the accomplishment of the playing and these concerts cannot fail to please. The acoustic of St Dionysius makes it a fine venue for chamber and instrumental music.

Each concert lasts approximately one hour, and I cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Tea and coffee are served after each performance along with the chance to meet the musicians and chat to fellow music lovers. The new season begins on January 22nd 2012 with ‘Tales from Russia’, a musical journey to the cold and romance of Russia through the music of Borodin and Tchaikovsky. The series continues on January 29th with ‘The Genius of Mozart’ when The Harborough Collective will be joined by The Chamber Orchestra of Europe clarinetist Marie Lloyd for a performance of Mozart’s sublime and ever popular Clarinet Quintet.

In February don’t miss the Valentine’s Concert of Love Songs through the ages from Dowland to Cole Porter via Schubert, Mahler and much much more!

I would urge anyone who wishes to hear music making of exceptional quality, along with exciting programming, to check out the concerts on www.harboroughconcerts.co.uk, and get along to one of these classic concerts as soon as possible.
