A property event held in Market Harborough last week (13th November) attracted over 30 visitors, including first time buyers as well as potential and current landlords looking to invest in property.

The Property Agenda, which was held at the Innovation Centre, offered free expert advice on a range of financial and legal issues from four local businesses: chartered accountants Elsby & Co, JND Property Maintenance, Northwood Lettings and Edward, Hands & Lewis solicitors.

Will Smart of Elsby & Co gave a presentation on property tax, including tips for maximising allowances and minimising Capital Gains Tax when selling, whilst  James Nunn of JND Property Maintenance explained how to effectively manage a property portfolio as a business. Northwood’s Andrew Le Mesurier looked at the issue of good property management with Martin Hill of EHL solicitors explaining the importance of robust contracts as well as offering tips on dealing with difficult tenants.

The Property Agenda was attended by a combination of first time buyers looking to gain advice on future purchases, and landlords looking for tips on how to maximise their investments. Organiser Clare Elsby of Elsby & Co was delighted with the turnout.

The buy to let market is very robust at the moment and is attracting a lot of interest from both potential new landlords and first time buyers,” she comments. “However, there are still pitfalls that people need to be aware of.  By combining the expertise of our four companies, we were able to cover all the main areas of interest for anyone looking to invest in property – whether as a landlord or as a homeowner.”

Elsby & Co are chartered accountants serving Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. The company offers a range of services including tax planning financial strategies and business development as well as retirement and succession planning, profit enhancement and business start-up services.
