Harborough town centre continues to buck the economic trend by filling vacant retail units with growing local businesses. The adjacent premises at 5 The Square and 1-5 Northampton Road are located in a prime position overlooking the town square and have been let to Steffans Jewellers and Market Harborough Care & Mobility, part of the A6 Mobility Group.

Market Harborough Care & Mobility, who specialise in mobility equipment including wheelchairs and scooters, already has a showroom on the outskirts of Desborough. The organisation has taken on the unit at 1-5 Northampton Road to expand their retail presence in the area.

“We have been established in the region for 12 years but have moved to the new premises as it is a lot bigger, enabling us to stock a wider range of mobility products, including scooters and rise and recline armchairs,” comments Janice Howes of A6 Mobility. “We are devoted to our local customers, and it is important to them to have a local business for local people.

Steffans Jewellers has let 5 The Square to expand their existing business and create a new focal point in the town centre. “We are delighted with our new premises and hope for a long and prosperous relationship,” comments Wes Suter Director of Steffans.

Formerly an independent record shop and jewellers, the units have been vacant for some time. The Grade II listed building retains many original features, including sash windows and extends over three floors, with the first and second floors of 5 The Square still available to let.

Acting as agents for both sites, staff at Andrew Granger & Co are delighted that the premises have been occupied by local independent retailers. “The two units are in a prime location and Market Harborough is well known in the area for its wealth of independent shops. At a time when the independents are struggling, it’s good to see two local businesses doing so well,” comments Richard Gadd, Graduate Surveyor at Andrew Granger & Co. “Harborough’s town centre is in a very healthy state compared to many other town centres, but to secure the letting of two retail units is still a great achievement in the current economic climate. Ultimately it improves confidence in the local economy for both businesses and consumers in Harborough.”

Established in 1989, Andrew Granger & Co. (www.andrewgranger.co.uk) is one of the largest independent firms of chartered surveyors and estate agents in the East Midlands. They have three offices in Market Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough.
