Harborough man achieves lifetime ambition of setting up own business

A Harborough man has achieved the ambition of launching his own business by establishing a new company this month (September). Steve Compton (39) of Lubenham Hill has set up The Clean Team (www.cleanteam.org.uk) specialising in cleaning ovens and other appliances for customers across the region.

Having worked in a number of sectors, including recruitment and internet marketing prior to his experience in the cleaning industry, Steve decided that demand in the area merited setting up his own company.

The Clean Team offers a range of services for domestic and commercial clients, from one-off deep cleans to regular maintenance contracts for ovens and other kitchen equipment such as freezers, fridges and fryers. The company also operates a commercial kitchen filter exchange scheme as well as offering mobile cleaning services for caravans and canal boats.

“There is a growing demand in the local area for this type of service, both amongst businesses and householders,” explains Steve. “People tend to be more aware of cleanliness and hygiene issues whilst commercial premises such as restaurants and other food outlets have strict environmental health guidelines to meet. People are also eager to prolong the life of their expensive domestic appliances, which regular cleaning does.”

Although based in Market Harborough, Steve and The Clean Team staff will operate across the East Midlands. With liveried vans and uniformed operators, the company will carry out any size of job from a one-off deep cleaning domestic cooker to regular contract cleaning for commercial kitchens.

Dirty ovens are cited as a major cause of domestic fires by fire services across the UK. In their safety guidance, the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue service highlight the importance of keeping the oven, hob and grill clean and free from a build-up of fat and grease which can ignite a fire.

Don’t

“People don’t realise that having a dirty oven can be a major fire hazard,” comments Steve. “It also significantly impacts on an appliance’s performance – and so it is a small price to pay for both peace of mind and an efficient oven.”
