Harborough businessman enters the boxing ring to help fight cancer

The owner of a Harborough based company is entering the boxing ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK.  James Longley 36, MD of Utility Bidder on Northampton Road, is set to participate in the Ultra White Collar Boxing event along with eight other boxers from Market Harborough who will be also be raising funds for charity.

It is not the first time that James taken part in the sport.  Earlier this year he took part in a training programme that culminated in a boxing challenge. “Before my first fight I was very nervous – particularly in the week leading up to it,” he comments. “I kept wondering why I had put myself in this position.” However after his winning bout, James was keen to return to the ring.

The fight takes place at Club Republic in Leicester between 4-9pm on Sunday 25th August. James is hoping to raise £3,000 in total for Cancer Research.

The other people taking part are Mark Burrows, Shaun Flynn, Max Harris, Fran Finnemore, Alan Cook, Mark Budge, Chris Wallace and Laurie Angus. Each fighter is currently participating in an intensive eight week training programme to get them in shape before they fight in 3×2 minute rounds. Their opponents will be announced at the weigh in on 17th August.

James has the support of partner Sally Martin who says “At first I didn’t think that James would go through with it. However, after I saw his first fight I knew that he would be able to complete this challenge. I am fully behind him and am supporting him all the way.”
