Harborough estate agency and chartered surveyors Andrew Granger & Co has joined forces with the Market Harborough Building Society to run an open day for those looking to buy their first property in the area.

The First Time Buyer Open Day is being held at the Andrew Granger offices on the High Street on Saturday 1^st June from 9am to 4pm. The event aims to be a one stop shop for those considering buying their first home. It will showcase the many properties that the agency has on their books suitable for first time buyers as well as offering advice on legal and financial issues.

“We have a wide selection of great properties that would be of interest to people who want to buy their first home,” comments Peter Buckingham, Head of Sales at Andrew Granger & Co. “Although first time buyers are being encouraged to enter the property market through the existence of more favourable mortgage deals, it can be daunting making the commitment to move from renting to home ownership.  We aim to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible for the first timer.”

Financial advisers from the Market Harborough Building Society will be on hand to discuss the different mortgage deals available. The society currently offers mortgages for first time buyers requiring deposits of 10% and 5% – much lower than previous rates of 20% offered by many lenders. Representatives from solicitors Wartnaby Hefford will also be there to offer advice on the legal process involved.

Figures released in February show that the first time buyer market has risen by 17% when compared to February 2012, with first time buyers accounting for around 43% of property purchases nationally.

“It is crucial to the health of the housing market to encourage first time buyers onto the property ladder,” adds Peter. “Conditions for lending are now more favourable than in recent years, and so it makes sound financial sense for those who were renting to invest in owning their own home.”

Diners from Harborough and the surrounding area are invited to while away their bank holiday listening to the sounds of jazz by the waterside. Dr Len’s Jazzmen will be playing at The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar on Monday 27^th May as part of the restaurant’s holiday celebrations.

The free performance will start at 7.30pm at the restaurant in Union Wharf, which also unveiled its new summer menu earlier this month. Dr Len’s Jazzmen have performed at the restaurant several times, including last New Year’s Eve.

 “Hopefully we will have a repeat of the superb bank holiday weather that we enjoyed on May Day,” comments Waterfront manager Sandy Tandy. “The sound of jazz on warm summer’s evening takes some beating, and we feel that it complements our beautiful waterside setting perfectly.”

Owned and run by the locally based Hamblin family, who also own Foxton Locks Inn, The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar was recently featured in The Sunday Times’ list of the Best Places to Live in Britain. The restaurant was cited in the national newspaper as a great place to meet for Sunday lunch.

The Waterfront was taken over by the current owners in 2010. Since then, it has built up a strong customer base, hosting lunch clubs in the downstairs restaurant, as well as business meetings, weddings and parties in the upstairs function room.

Events have also involved royalty such as Prince Philip and the Duke of York, with training organised for some of industry’s biggest names.
