Counselling services for all ages now available in Harborough

Ruth and Simon Commons at Archway House

Counselling services for people of all ages in the Harborough area including children from the age of four are now available at a local complementary health centre. Married therapists Simon and Ruth Commons are part of the holistic team of practitioners offering a range of wellbeing services at Archway House between Market Harborough and Lubenham.

Simon first joined Archway House two years ago working as a psychotherapist, counsellor and hypnotherapist before the practice relocated from its town centre location to a rural setting on the site of the former Welland Lodge public house. Having trained in child and adolescent therapy, Simon’s wife Ruth then joined the team, ensuring that all ages from four years old and upwards are catered for. Ruth specialises in counselling skills through the Arts for ages 4 to 18 years.

“Many people can benefit from talking to a professional who is trained to actively listen without judgement and can offer expert support and guidance through some of life’s more difficult and unexpected challenges,” comments Ruth. “Art has also been proven to be a particularly powerful therapeutic tool for working with children for a wide range of issues, and is a technique that I have found to be increasingly successful with teenagers at Archway House.”

Ruth has an honours degree in teaching in addition to a qualification in counselling children from the Institute of Art for Therapy and Education, in London. She is now studying for an advanced diploma in psychotherapy. In addition to his counselling clients, Simon also runs weekly relaxation classes at Archway.

“We all lead such pressured and stressful lives that finding time to relax and unwind can be difficult,” he comments. “However, making that time is such an important part of our mental and physical wellbeing. These sessions perfectly complement the range of therapies offered at the practice.”

Simon is also about to go into the recording studio to create his own set of relaxation CDs for people to use in their own homes. For more information about the services offered by Simon and Ruth, visit or call 01858 410 820.

The Archway House practice was originally set up by Alec and his wife Stella on the Coventry Road site in 1997. The centre now has 14 practitioners offering a range of services including acupuncture, reflexology, reiki, chiropractic, sports massage, herbal medicine and nutrition. The practice is home to Body Fitness, a team of personal trainers and the Day Spa which incorporates Randall’s hairdressers and Sheeda’s beauty salon. Archway’s weekly classes also include Pilates and yoga.
