A taster day held at a complementary health centre in Market Harborough in September has raised £430 for local charity The Squires Effect.

Over 180 people from around the region attended the event held at Archway House on Lubenham Hill to find out about the range of health services on offer. The day involved talks and taster sessions, including stress busting massages, nutrition intolerance testing, reiki, herbal tea tasting and hand reflexology. Sessions were free with people invited to make voluntary donations to the charity if they wished.

“The day was a massive success and we were delighted with the money raised for The Squires Effect,” comments Archway House owner Alec Welton. “We received very positive feedback from visitors. The event also gave our practitioners the chance to show how they can make a difference to people’s lives.”

The fundraising total was boosted by a raffle with prizes which included £100 worth of Archway House vouchers, a month’s free weightloss fitness camp, facials, massages and manicures.

The Squires Effect was set up after 30 year old Claire Squires died whilst running the London Marathon. The organisation raises funds for a range good causes, including bereavement charity The Laura Centre and Rainbows children’s hospice.  Alec and Stella Welton presented the cheque to Claire Squires’ mother Cilla and sister Nicola last month (October).

Archway House was set up in Market Harborough by Alec and his wife Stella in 1997, moving to its current site in 2010. The largest complementary health practice in Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, the centre has 14 practitioners offering a range of services including acupuncture, reflexology, reiki, chiropractic, sports massage, hypnotherapy, herbal medicine and nutrition. There is a personal trainer service on site running individual and group training sessions in the purpose built gym, as well as Sheeda’s Day Spa.
