Area’s largest natural health centre extends range of lifestyle classes

Yoga teacher Caron Lindley

Archway House Natural Health Centre in Market Harborough has extended its range of health and fitness classes to include specially tailored yoga classes for the first time. The centre is also offering Pilates classes for the over 50s starting from this month (April).

Archway House, which is the largest centre of its kind in the East Midlands, already holds a range of Pilates classes on site every week as well as regular hynobirthing and ante-natal sessions in the purpose built studio.

We have been looking to offer yoga classes for some time, but wanted to ensure that we found the right teacher,” explains Archway House’s owner Alec Welton. “Our Pilates classes are often full and offering yoga seemed to be a logical addition to the range of services that we offer. They also complement our hypnobirthing programme which teaches relaxation and breathing techniques for a more natural birthing experience.”

There will be two different classes on offer: Yoga for Relaxation aimed at all abilities and ages and Yoga for Beginners. Teacher Caron Lindley, who trained with the British Wheel of Yoga and is now continuing her studies with the Yoga Alliance, will also be offering private sessions for individuals.
Caron teaches classical Hatha yoga, saying “The discipline of yoga is so beneficial for pretty much everyone. It improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina as well as reducing stress and enhancing relaxation. With all the stresses and strains of modern life, activities such as yoga can have an extremely beneficial impact on people’s quality of life.”

Yoga for Beginners will run on Tuesdays at 6pm and 7pm and Thursdays at 10am and 11am. The first class commences after Easter on 29th April, running as a three week block at a cost of £8 per session. Yoga for Relaxation classes will follow the beginners’ classes at 7pm on Tuesdays and 11am on Thursdays.

I’ve put on these short courses specifically so people who are new to yoga for a few weeks and then decide if it’s for them,” adds Caron.

Pilates classes for the over 50s and for beginners will also be starting as of Tuesday 29th April with a new teacher Louse Dare. Louise, who lives in Harborough, first practised Pilates as a means of pain relief for her own back pain before qualifying as a Body Control Pilates teacher. “The over 50s class will be moderately paced with a focus on flexibility, balance, release and gentle mobilisation, suitable for those wanting a thorough workout but at a slower pace,” she explains.

Archway House is the largest centre for complementary therapies in the area, offering a range of services including acupuncture, chiropractic and sports massage.
